While the NHL season remains suspended until further notice amidst the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, players are stuck inside their homes. No training, no ice time, no hits, no play. Bad news for hockey players trying to stay in their prime.

However, for the San Jose Sharks organization, the pause does hold a silver underlining.

Through the 2019-20 season, San Jose has seen quite the list of injuries, including long term injuries to centerman Tomas Hertl, and star defenseman Erik Karlsson.

Hertl, 26, suffered tears to his left ACL and MCL in late January. He was ruled out for the remainder of the season and prepared to undergo surgery to repair the injury.

Karlsson suffered a broken thumb in mid-February, which he underwent successful surgery for in Los Angeles. Though the injury and surgery deemed him out for the remainder of the year.

As reported Friday by The Athletic's Kevin Kurz, San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson stated both Hertl and Karlsson are recovering ahead of schedule, and are expected to be ready for the start of next season.

This should prove to be good news for a San Jose team who have struggled mightily through the season, sitting 29th in the league standings at the time of suspension.

While there is no set return time for the NHL season, the halt in play will continue to allow players across to heal from injuries, and it's likely that the return to play should see a plethora of healthy lineups across the league.
