Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today that his club has signed defenceman Tim Bernie to a three-year, entry level contract. Berni was selected by the team in the sixth-round of the 2018 NHL Entry draft.

The 20-year-old Berni spent this season in the National League (NL) with the ZSC Lions. In 45 games, he posted four goals and 11 points. He originally made his National League (NL) debut back in 2017-18 for the ZSC Lions, and has played in 94 total games for the team, posting 19 points. Prior to this season, he had split time between the NL as well as the National League B, in which he put up 16 points in 39 games.

Berni has also represented his home country of Switzerland three times (2018, 2019, 2020) in the IIHF World Junior Championships, and was the captain for the 2020 team. In both the 2019 and 2020 tournaments, he was named a top three player for his team.
