The province of Ontario, and Toronto in particular, has been one of the hardest hit areas of Canada when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic. That should come as no surprise considering that's where a major portion of Canada's population is located. As for what this means for hockey's return, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, it means the pause has only just begun.
While the Leafs could technically play at their arena before June 30th, it's doubtful the NHL would go against guidelines set out by city officials.
It's also interesting to note that the NHL extended the self-isolation period for players Tuesday to April 15th, the second time the period has been extended since the league suspended play. With each passing day, the hope for any kind of return for the 2019-20 season seems to take a hit.
