Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon announced Monday afternoon that the team has agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with defenceman John Ludvig. Ludvig was selected by the Panthers in the third round of the 2019 draft.

“John had an outstanding season for Portland in the Western Hockey League and was among the league's top defencemen,” Tallon said. “He is a talented defenceman who possesses great compete, physicality and character. We are excited for John's continued development and look forward to his future in the Panthers organization.”

Ludvig has spent his entire three-year junior hockey career playing for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League. He vastly improved this season, putting up an impressive 17 goals and 62 points in 60 games. The year prior, he had just 18 total points in 58 games.

Ludvig was serving as the Winterhawks captain prior to the season being shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak. It had been an outstanding season for his team, as they were leading the entire league with a dominant 45-11-3-4 record. Ludvig's junior career finishes with him playing 169 regular season games and amassing 87 total points.
