It is an extremely strange time in the sports community, as it seems all sports worldwide, regardless of the level of play, have been shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The country of Belarus, however, appears to be on its own page.

The country is continuing with all their sporting events, including ones with large crowds. The Belarusian Extraleague, which is the country's best hockey league, has yet to be suspended. Alexander Lukashenko, the country's president, played in a hockey game on Sunday in his nation's capital Minsk.

“There are no viruses here,” said Lukashenko. “You haven't noticed them flying around, have you? This is a fridge. Sports, particularly on the ice, this fridge here. That's the best actual anti-virus remedy.”

Of course, his quote about there being no viruses in Belarus is not entirely true. As of Friday, the country had 94 confirmed cases of Coronavirus. Hockey is not the only sport continuing either, as a soccer match in Belarus had over 3,000 attendees on Saturday.

As far as Lukashenko is concerned, there is little to worry about regarding the pandemic. He has advised his residents to drink vodka and take saunas instead of fretting over the virus.
