According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland Athletics minor-league manager and coach Webster Garrison is fighting COVID-19. It was announced Saturday the 54-year-old has been placed on a ventilator in Louisiana.

The Athletics' believe that Garrison's exposure to the virus occurred after he left the A's minor league complex on March 13. After the team and the rest of baseball shut down major and minor league operations to help flatten the curve in fight against the pandemic.

The staff and players have all been quarantined for the past two weeks. The Chronicle said that as soon as the team was made aware of his diagnosis, they immediately informed minor league personnel and players that a staff member had been exposed to the virus.

Garrison had been coaching in the Athletics' minor-league system since 1999, and served last year as manager of the Class-A Stockton Ports. He was going to be assigned to manage one of Oakland's rookie-league teams for the now postponed 2020 season.

Before Garrison became a coach, he was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the second round of the 1983 draft as a second baseman. He never did reach the majors with Toronto, but eventually appeared in 10 games for the Athletics during the 1996 season.

The A's have yet to officially announce Garrison's condition, but have been saying that a minor-league staff member had tested positive and was currently in hospital care.
