LONG-TIME NHL DEFENCEMAN, SHARKS SCOUT BRYAN MARCHMENT PASSES AWAY

JUL 6, 2022  (15H56)      COOPER GODIN
Some sad news to report in the hockey world on Wednesday. According to ESPN's Kevin Weekes, former NHL defenceman and San Jose Sharks scout Bryan Marchment has passed away at the age of 53 while in Montreal for the upcoming draft.

Marchment was selected in the first round, sixteenth overall in 1987 by the Winnipeg Jets. He spent parts of sixteen seasons in the National Hockey League with the Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Hartford Whalers, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames. In 926 career games, Marchment had 182 points (40 goals, 142 assists).

Following the conclusion of his career, he was hired by the San Jose Sharks as a scout in 2007, a role he held until his passing on Wednesday.

The San Jose Sharks released a statement following Marchment's passing, saying they are heartbroken by the news and send their condolences to his family.

Our thoughts are with Bryan Marchment's family at this difficult time.
