Alex Ovechkin asked to comment on situation with Ivan Fedotov

Since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Alex Ovechkin has chosen his words very carefully. The supporter and friend of Vladimir Putin tried his hardest not to talk about what was happening, giving a statement that simply said "no more war." Now, Ovechkin is being pressured in his home country to answer questions regarding Philadelphia Flyers prospect Ivan Fedotov, and it appears he's not interested in that either.

Fedotov was arrested last week for alleged "draft dodging" after signing a one-year entry-level deal with the Flyers in May. His plan was to play in North America in October. However, his arrest, which appears to have very little validity, will likely end up keeping him in his home country, where he may even be sent to a military base to complete his service. Asked if he wanted to comment on that by a Russian journalist, Ovechkin said no.

"You don't want to talk about Fedotov?" Ovechkin was asked by Ivan Karpov?

"No, why should I?" said Ovechkin.

The Great 8 is currently at home in Russia for the summer break. He's been taking part in many local activities, including a farewell friendly game for Alexander Semin, who is now retired.

Meanwhile, Fedotov's lawyer says a lawsuit has been launched asking that the decision of the Military Prosecutor's Office be overturned.

"I will not comment on this situation related to his whereabouts. A lawsuit has been filed in court. As I said earlier, we demand that the decision of the draft board be declared illegal and cancelled," said Fedotov's lawyer.
