After nineteen seasons of professional hockey between the KHL and NHL, former Washington Capital Alexander Semin has announced his retirement.
The 38-year-old will hold a "farewell game" on June 30th in Krasnoyarsk (Russia) with the proceeds going to charity. Among those invited by Semin to participate are
Alexander Ovechkin,
Evgeni Malkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Pavel Datsyuk,
Kirill Kaprizov, among others.
Semin was selected in the first round, thirteenth overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. During his eleven years in the National Hockey League, Semin played for Washington, Carolina and had a brief stint with the Montreal Canadiens.
In 650 regular season games, he had 517 points (239 goals, 278 assists) and 582 penalty minutes. Semin added 34 points (fifteen goals, nineteen assists) in 51 career playoff games.
