McCrimmon asked if he regrets firing Gallant; Stone likely having major surgery

It's an odd quote from Vegas Golden Knights' General Manager Kelly McCrimmon, to say the least. McCrimmon fired head coach Peter DeBoer Monday after what was the worst season in the team's short history. DeBoer lasted under two-and-a-half seasons. He was hired after Gerard Gallant was fired in a move made specifically to bring DeBoer to Vegas after he was fired from the San Jose Sharks. Now, Gallant is headed to the second round of the 2022 NHL Playoffs with the New York Rangers, while DeBoer is unemployed. McCrimmon seems to believe that he still made the right move canning Gallant.

"I don't see how you can consider Pete DeBoer's tenure with the Golden Knights as anything but a success," said McCrimmon when asked whether he regretted firing Gallant.

It's an odd thing to call an employee successful when you just gave them their walking papers after such a short time. DeBoer brought Vegas to the Conference Finals in his first year, and what was considered the "Stanley Cup Semi-finals" during the COVID shortened season. Whatever the case, there is a lot of suspicion that McCrimmon is making, or will make a move to hire Barry Trotz who was recently fired by the New York Islanders.

Meanwhile, during a news conference Monday, McCrimmon stated Mark Stone is likely having back surgery on Wednesday. It's not 100 percent decided, but he expects it will happen. This is an injury that has been bugging Stone for a while and kept him on the sidelines plenty this season. Should he have the surgery, the team has announced he will be back for training camp.
