There are a few ageless wonders among the ranks of the hockey elite. The obvious ones, of course, are Gordie Howe and, more recently, Jaromir Jagr, but there are some other examples like Joe Thornton and Zdeno Chara who have remained in the NHL past their 40th birthday.

The Dallas Stars may have one or two of their own who can accomplish that feat in forward Joe Pavelski and newly-signed veteran defenseman Ryan Suter, with the latter making some interesting comments about his future on Thursday.

Suter, who signed a 4-year deal with the Stars on Wednesday worth $3.65M per season, stated on Thursday that he believes that he could play well into his 40's.

"I think I can play until I'm 45 if I want," the Stars defenseman told NHL.com's Tracey Myers. "I just think the way I play.. My play hasn't gone down over the last 10 years. I think it's actually gotten better."

Suter will be 37 years old at the mid-way point of this season, meaning that his deal with the Stars won't expire until he's 41 years-of-age. Depending on the trajectory of his decline, he may actually be able to do it, so long as there are willing suitors in the NHL or overseas.

Suter has dressed in 1198 regular season NHL games, compiling 607 career points over that span. The Madison, Wisconsin native also ranked 31 points in 88 career postseason games.
