UPDATE: ST. LOUIS BLUES LAND BRANDON SAAD

With several big names getting new contracts during the opening of NHL free agency Wednesday, perhaps the biggest name left on the market right now is Brandon Saad. The 28-year-old winger, who is coming off of a contract that paid him an average of $6 million annually, reportedly has plenty of offers to consider.

TSN's Pierre LeBrun said he believes there are three teams vying for Saad's services. They include the Colorado Avalanche - the team Saad played with most recently - the Carolina Hurricanes and the New Jersey Devils. Saad has been a very consistent points producer throughout his career, although he slipped a bit in the last two seasons due to injuries.

LeBrun did not say what each team is offering. It's unlikely Saad will get $6 million again, but he shouldn't be too far off the mark. New Jersey apparently made a very good pitch to Saad. The team made a big splash on Wednesday, signing the top name on the market, Dougie Hamilton, to a seven-year contract worth $63 million.
