The Kostitsyn brothers are once again playing for the same hockey team

Throughout their professional hockey careers, the Kostitsyn brothers, Sergei and Andrei, have found themselves playing for the same team several times. Whether it was by design, or fate, the two spent several years together with the Montreal Canadiens, then a brief stint where they were both with the Nashville Predators, and then another season together playing in the KHL for Dynamo Minsk. That was back in 2018-19, the last time the brothers suited up for the same team. However, there's word they'll be back together in 2021-22.

According to reports out of Russian, both Kostitsyns have been signed by HC Shakhtyor Soligorsk of the Belarusian Extraliga. The brothers were born in Belarus so it makes sense that they would return there to play hockey. The reports mention both contracts have an out clause in case a contract happens to come up in a higher league, such as the KHL. However, Sergei has not played in the KHL since the 2018-19 season, while Andrei left the league mid-season last year to play in the Czech Republic.

Interestingly enough, Shakhtyor Soligorsk acts as the farm club for the KHL's Dynamo Minsk, the last team the two played together with in the KHL.

Sergei, the younger of the two brothers at 34, played in Austria last season after taking a season off to recover from an injury. While they both played a similar number of games in the NHL, it's Andrei, 36, who had the better stats. Andrei was a first round draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens, 10th overall in 2003. Sergei was taken in the seventh round by the Habs in 2005.
