Islanders looking to bring in two big name free agents

According to New York Rangers reporter Larry Brooks, New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello is looking at bringing in both Ryan Suter and Zach Parise this offseason.

Both Parise and Suter recently had their identical 13-year contracts bought out by the Minnesota Wild with four seasons remaining. For Parise, the buy out did not come as a surprise as the 36-year-old didn't make a positive impression on head coach Dean Evason and was healthy scratched on multiple occasions this past season, leading to some very interesting post season comments which made it sound like he would like to move on. In 45 games this season he had just seven goals and 18 points, but has over 1000 games played and north of 800 points, so he could certainly be of value to a number of teams.

Suter's buyout on the other hand was a big time shocker. Despite also being 36 years old, he was still playing heavy minutes for the Wild, averaging over 22 minutes this past season. He had 19 points in 56 games this season and is still undoubtedly a top-four NHL defenceman, meaning he will be heavily sought after this season.

From the moment Parise was bought out, many saw the Islanders as a destination for him given his history with Lamoriello, who he played many seasons for with the New Jersey Devils. Both Suter and Parise confirmed after being bought out they would like to try and play together again this season, so hearing them being linked to the same team doesn't come as a shock.
