After spending the past three seasons in Europe, former New Jersey Devil and Colorado Avalanche defenceman Eric Gelinas is returning to the NHL.

Gelinas' SHL club, Rogle BK, announced this morning that he was leaving the team for an NHL return, but did not specify which team he was signing for. Kvallsposten and Expressen insider Johan Svensson is reporting that Gelinas is signing with the Carolina Hurricanes. Details regarding the term and dollar amount have not been released as of yet.

"Eric has been a big part of our successes here the last 2.5 seasons, and has shown that he is one of the SHL's best defencemen. His leadership, personality and hard shots will be difficult to replace, but we wish him luck with his new opportunity in the NHL," said Rogle BK general manager Greg Abbott.

"I am very happy for this opportunity that I have worked so hard for," Gelinas said.
