The announcement on Thursday, that Brad Larsen would be named John Tortorella's successor in Columbus and become the eighth head coach in franchise history, was a proud moment for both he and his family.

On Friday, Larsen addressed the media for the first time since earning his much-deserved promotion after serving under Tortorella for the past six seasons for the Blue Jackets.

Larsen was very complintary of Tortorella and had clearly formed a close personal bond with the veteran bench boss, not taking any pleasure at the thought of not working together next season, but grateful for the lessons that Torts taught him in Columbus.

"Getting to know [Tortorella] over the last six years, not just as a coach, that he trusted me, he empowered me, he grew me, but as a man.. I wish everybody could get to know him how I did," Larsen said, becoming visibly emotional.

Larsen got so choked up at one point during the session that he had to take a moment to compose himself to avoid bursting into tears before finally being able to conclude his thoughts on Torts by saying that he is a special man and that he would be forever in Tortorella's debt.

The friendships that are formed in hockey can be absolutely life-altering, which is what we witnessed in Larsen's response to what Tortorella meant to him during the time they shared in Columbus. This is a truly heartwarming moment, as it shows the connection that two colleagues can share and what they can come to mean to one another over time.

We are a product of the relationships we build throughout our lives and if I had to guess, I'd bet that Tortorella feels the same about Larsen and would be the first to wish him all the best as the eighth head coach in Columbus Blue Jackets history.
