BEDNAR, MACKINNON HARD ON THEMSELVES FOLLOWING AVS LOSS TO GOLDEN KNIGHTS

It's never a fun thing when your team is sent packing after a hard-fought playoff series, but that is the reality the Colorado Avalanche are facing after being eliminated by the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round. It's likely even tougher for the Avs knowing they were up two games to none in the series, only to lose four straight games at the hands of the Knights. As for blame, Colorado coach Jared Bednartold the media to look no further than himself.

"If people want to point a finger at someone, I hope it's me," said Bednar following Thursday night's 6-3 loss in game 6.

That said, he believes he can guide the team to the next level.

"I'm confident I can guide this team. I'm dedicated to this team with my preparation, my relationships with the guys. We're always working to try to improve."

Star player Nathan MacKinnon was clearly in no mood to answer questions from reporters following the game, but did so anyway, giving clearly frustrated answers. When asked about the seasons ahead, MacKinnon was hard on himself.

"There's always next year," he said with sarcasm in his voice. "I'm going into my ninth year next year and haven't won shit. I'm definitely motivated. It just sucks."

The Avalanche finished first in the West Division in the regular season and first in the NHL, followed very closely by the Golden Knights. Both teams were considered favourites to get to the finals. Vegas now moves on to face the Montreal Canadiens in the semi-finals, while Tampa Bay and the New York Islanders meet in the other series.
