After a well deserved day off, the Canadiens were back at it on Wednesday morning preparing for their third round series against either the Colorado Avalanche or Vegas Golden Knights. At the team meeting, former Canadiens captain, and Hockey Hall of Famer Bob Gainey made an appearance and gave the team a pep talk on how to get ready for the massive opportunity they have ahead of them.

"He talked about experience. There aren't a lot of organizations that can fall back on alumni with the amount of experience that this one can, and we were fortunate to have one in the building today. He was able to speak to us about some things that he went through during his career, some things he's seen. He talked about how important it was going to be to start Game 1 and really implement our style of play. It was a passionate speech. It was nice to have him here. Those are things that we're going to be doing this week to make sure that we balance rest, but also stay mentally and physically sharp. We don't want our game to fall off from where it was when we finished the series against Winnipeg," Habs forward Brendan Gallagher said about Gainey's speech to the team.

Gainey, 67, spent his entire 16-year career with the Canadiens, with eight of those seasons as the team's captain. During his time in Montreal, Gainey helped the Habs win five Stanley Cups, and he won the Frank J. Selke Trophy four times. For his efforts with the franchise, his number 23 was retired in February 2008.

Any time you can have someone of his stature come into the locker room and give the team a speech it gives everyone a huge boost.

Montreal awaits the winner of the Colorado/Vegas series, which could come to an end on Thursday night if the Golden Knights win.
