Samsonov, Kuznetsov appear to remain in the Caps' doghouse ahead of game 2

The Washington Capitals have a 1-0 series lead over the Boston Bruins, but after being removed from COVID-19 protocol this weekend, both forward Evgeny Kuznetsov and goaltender Ilya Samsonov, it appears as though they will not factor in for game 2 after also missing game 1 on Saturday.

Samsonov and Kuznetsov appear to be in the doghouse for the second time this season, with the latter already rumoured to be on his way out of Washington during the upcoming offseason, due to the Caps apparently having had their fill of his off-ice antics.

Per the Washington Post's Samantha Pell, Kuznetsov, 28, joined the team for practice on Monday, but was slotted in as an extra forward and not in his usual spot on the Caps' top line.

In addition, Samsonov, 24, also returned to practice, but was one in a group of four goaltenders that was led by soon-to-be 40-year-old Craig Anderson, who exited practice early, indicating that the Capitals intend to go with the veteran Anderson for game 2 on Monday after stopping 21 of 22 shots in relief of the injured Vitek Vanacek on Saturday in the 3-2 OT victory.

The Caps' coaching staff appears to be holding the two Russians accountable for their actions in an attempt to get them in line after now having broken protocol twice this season. It's a bold decision given what's at stake in the postseason. I'll be intrigued to see how the lineup looks for game 3 if the Caps come up short in game 2 on Monday.
