Despite having a team of aging veterans that has now missed the playoffs in two straight seasons, San Jose Sharks GM Doug Wilson still has no intentions of entering a rebuild.
Wilson told media there is no need to tear down and rebuild the franchise given that they were a perennial contender for the majority of the previous 15 years. Instead, he believes a few good moves is all it will take to get them back to that point.
«I expect this to be a very good hockey team,» Wilson said. «I expect a team every year to compete for the playoffs. If we add the right things, players get back in their cycle, they're able to do that. I think we'll be a very good team next year. I really do.»
The Sharks will look to avoid missing the playoffs for the third straight year in the 2021-22 season, which would be the first time for that to happen in franchise history. Despite being a very good team for over the past decade however, they were never able to win a Stanley Cup which many expected them on numerous occasions.
