Sean Avery has his say on the Tom Wilson incident

Former Ranger Sean Avery did a Cameo for a New York based podcast called "The Morning Skate" and detailed what he would do if he was in Monday night's game against the Washington Capitals. Firstly, if you aren't familiar with Cameo, it's a website where you can pay for personalized shout outs from athletes, celebrities, and musicians.

In Avery's Cameo for The Morning Skate, he said: "Tom Wilson, first of all I would love to have a time machine because I would go back in time. I wouldn't go after Wilson, okay? Hopefully, all the boys would say, you know what, we'll cover the fine."

"I would dump the puck in slowly so that Braden Holtby or whoever the goaltender was for the Capitals had to come out and play the puck and I would run through him like a f*cking bulldozer, and that would send a message. That would let the Washington Capitals know that there's repercussions. When you take out our star player, you're going to feel it. It's as simple as that."

He went on to say: "You don't wait for the NHL Player Safety, George Parros to do your disciplinary work, you take it into your own hands, you bring it back old school and you handle your business. They will think twice, Tom Wilson will think twice the next time he wants to take a shot at Panarin or Mika or Lafreniere. It's very simple. Once again, I would love that time machine."

Avery has done his fair share of crazy stuff throughout his career, such as the incident with Martin Brodeur in the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs, but he sort of has a point here in this video, and it's especially true after the Department of Player Safety announced that Wilson would only receive a fine of $5,000 USD.

Players are going to take matters into their own hands if the NHL's DOPS continues to falter as they have throughout the 2020-21 season. A complete overhaul of the Department of Player Safety is what the NHL should be focused on this off-season.
