NEW YORK RANGERS SLAM GEORGE PARROS, PLAYER SAFETY IN STATEMENT

MAY 4, 2021  (18H35)      COLTON PANKIW
At this point, everyone is aware of the incident that took place between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals on Monday night regarding Tom Wilson. It is a story that will likely continue to be talked about for some time.

After Wilson going after both Pavel Buchnevich and Artemi Panarin last night, many expected he would get a lengthy suspension from the NHL's Department of Player Safety. Instead, however, the league announced this morning that he was only receiving a $5,000. This has had many, from players, analysts, and fans giving their two cents about how they feel regarding the lack of a suspension. This afternoon, the New York Rangers released their own statement from their team Twitter account.

«The New York Rangers are extremely disappointed that Capitals forward Tom Wilson was not suspended for his horrifying act of violence last night at Madison Square Garden. Wilson is a repeat offender with a long history of these type of acts and we find it shocking that the NHL and their Department of Player Safety failed to take the appropriate action and suspend him indefinitely. Wilson's dangerous and reckless actions caused an injury to Artemi Panarin that will prevent him from playing again this season. We view this as a dereliction of duty by the NHL Head of Player Safety, George Parros, and believe he is unfit to continue in his current role.»

Given how recent this statement was released, there has not been much attention given to it just yet. However, given that they are calling out both the league and its Department of Player Safety, it is likely the Rangers will be fined for this. Expect to hear more in the near future.
