San Jose Sharks, Adin Hill avoid arbitration with new deal

A key piece in the San Jose Sharks hopeful reset has been signed to a new two-year deal, avoiding arbitration that was set to take place later this month. Adin Hill was acquired by the Sharks on July 17th along with a 2022 seventh-round selection from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for goaltender Josef Korenar and San Jose's 2022 second-round selection.

The AAV for Hill, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, is $2.175 million. The 25-year-old appeared in 19 games last season for Arizona in 2020-21, earning a 9-9-1 record with a .913 save percentage (SV%) and 2.74 goals-against average (GAA) along with two shutouts. Hill co-led Arizona goaltenders in shutouts and led in save percentage. He also set a career-high in games played and games started (17). In 2019-20, he registered a .918 SV% and 2.62 GAA, which were both NHL career bests.

San Jose is trying its best to get to another level without tearing the team down entirely. Goaltending was a big area of concern, with Martin Jones playing well below par the last couple of years. Jones was bought out in July and signed a one-year deal with Philadelphia. In addition to trading for Hill, the Sharks also picked up James Reimer in free agency. It's likely the duo will act as a 1A-1B, although it's certain the team is hoping the younger Hill can breakthrough and get the bulk of the starts.
