Marc-Andre Fleury explains his hesitation to join the Chicago Blackhawks

After about a week of silence, goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury made a lot of fans happy earlier this week when he officially announced he would be joining the Chicago Blackhawks. Fleury, who is in the final year of his contract, was surprised when he was traded to Chicago from the Vegas Golden Knights as he thought he would be finishing out his career in Vegas. While speaking to reporters Wednesday, he explained that he took some time to speak with people who played for the Blackhawks before making a decision.

Fleury said he talked to Cam Ward, Chris Kunitz and Craig Adams about the Blackhawks, as well as talking with Robin Lehner when he first arrived.

"I keep hearing so many great things about the team and how they treat the players and the families," he said.

He also insists he was never anti-Chicago, he just didn't expect to get moved.

"I never had anything against Chicago, the organization," said Fleury. "It was just me, personally, (figuring out) what I wanted to do."

Fleury confirmed he did find out about the trade when his agent called him after seeing it on Twitter.

"My agent gave me a call, told me it was out on Twitter that I was traded. That's how I found out. I don't have social media, so I'm not on there looking things up all the time. He knows that. That's why he gave me a call," he said.

Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon has stated he does not call players regarding trades until the move has been officially approved by the league. He said that, somehow, this trade leaked out before he had the chance to call Fleury.

It appears all's well that ends well as Fleury once again stated he was excited about joining the Blackhawks and was looking forward to getting training camp underway in September.
