Former Columbus Blue Jacket and current Winnipeg Jets forward
Pierre-Luc Dubois is switching things up ahead of the 2021-22 season with the announcement that he will be wearing a new number next season.
Dubois, who wore #18 with the Blue Jackets during his tenure in Columbus and who wore #13 last year with the Jets has elected to go with #80 this season in honour of former teammate and friend Matiss Kivlenieks, who passed away following a tragic accident on July 4th. Kivlenieks was struck in the chest by a fireworks mortar blast.
A nice showing of respect by Dubois, paying homage to his fallen friend by wearing his number - a constant reminder of the bond they formed during their time together in Columbus.
Dubois was traded from the Blue Jackets to the Jets last season in exchange for winger
Patrik Laine and center
Jack Roslovic after Dubois had requested a trade out of Columbus. Many had speculated that the request came due to friction between Dubois and then head coach John Tortorella.
