Former teammates and colleagues of Evander Kane chime in on NHL gambling allegations

This past weekend, the estranged wife of Evander Kane, Anna Kane, came forward with some serious allegations against her husband, claiming that the 30-year-old winger had been gambling on his own hockey games, throwing matches to win money through a bookie.

Kane had refuted his wife's claims over the weekend, against the advice of his legal team, issuing a statement about his gambling in which he vehemently denied ever having gambled on his own games - and hockey period.

Since that time, the NHL has launched its own investigation into the matter. If it is discovered that Kane had indeed gambled on his own games or any hockey game, he could face a fine, a suspension (definite or indefinite), or outright expulsion from the league.

A number of Kane's former teammates and some colleagues from around the league have spoken with ESPN, confirming that Kane has been open about his gambling on Basketball and Football, but thus far, none have stated that Kane has ever discussed having bet on a hockey game.

The NHLPA has confirmed that there are no rules prohibiting players from betting on other sports. There is, however, a section of the collective bargaining agreement under "Standard Club Rules" prohibits players from betting on any NHL game. According to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, that rule is posted in every singer locker room in the entire league.

This continues to be a storyline to follow closely, as there are some very serious potential consequences that Kane could face if it is proven that he is guilty of the infraction that his wife has accused him of.
