According to Montreal Canadiens reporter Eric Engels, the Habs have signed free agent defenceman David Savard, as well as Chris Wideman and Cedric Paquette.

Savard, 30, had spent his entire eight season career with the Columbus Blue Jackets before being acquired by the Tampa Bay Lightning at this year's trade deadline. He went on to help the Bolts win their second Stanley Cup in as many years, chipping in five assists in 20 games during their playoff run all while being very steady in his own end. He is coming off of a five-year deal with a cap hit of $4.25. His new deal with Montreal is for four years with a cap hit of $3.5 million annually.

Wideman, 31, was forced to go to the KHL last season after the "Uber incident" (google if you need more info). It worked out fantastic for him as he posted 41 points in 59 games and is ready to give the NHL another go. This sneaky move could have huge benefits for the Habs. His deal is one-year for $750.000. Paquette, 27, started the 2020-21 season with the Ottawa Senators but was soon moved to the Carolina Hurricanes. He is a fourth liner who will add some sand paper to the Habs lineup and was part the Lightning's 2020 Stanley Cup winning team. Paquette's deal is a one-year contract worth $950,000.
