THE VICTIM IN LOGAN MAILLOUX'S LEGAL CASE SAYS ALL SHE WANTED WAS 'HEARTFELT APOLOGY'

JUL 24, 2021  (9H44)      TIM TUCKER
As the hockey world continues to discuss the shocking events of last night's draft, with the Montreal Canadiens selecting Logan Mailloux 31st overall even after he asked not to be selected, the woman at the centre of the criminal charges is saying all she wanted was for Mailloux to apologize and mean it. In a story by The Athletic, which was published before Mailloux was drafted Friday night, the victim said she doesn't believe Mailloux has shown remorse for what he did.

"I do not think that Logan has understood the seriousness of his behavior," said the woman in an email.

The woman also told The Athletic that she asked Mailloux to send her a sincere written apology because she didn't want to meet with him in person. She added she received "a text that was no longer than three sentences."

As has been reported numerous times, Mailloux faced criminal charges after an incident that happened in Sweden last November when he was on loan from the London Knights of the OHL. According to The Athletic, "In December, he was issued a summary fine, akin to a conviction in Swedish court, for «Kränkande fotografering» (offensive photography constituting an invasion of privacy) and «Förtal» (defamation). Mailloux shared a photo with teammates that showed him and the then 18-year-old woman involved in a consensual sexual encounter. While he says she was not identifiable in the photo, he also sent a screenshot of her Snapchat profile to the group, which listed her name and other personal details. In an interview with Daily Faceoff, Mailloux was quoted as telling Swedish police the woman wanted to ruin his career. The Athletic quotes sources as saying that in "interviews with some NHL teams prior to the draft, Mailloux has portrayed the woman as vindictive."

"Logan says that I want to ruin his career. I have never said that. All I have wanted is to get justice for the actions he has taken against me," the woman told The Athletic. "If his actions ruin his career, it's up to him. It's not my fault."
