Chris Phillips resigns from Ottawa Senators Foundation

Some interesting news coming from Ottawa today, as former NHL defenceman Chris Phillips announced his resignation from the Senators. The 43-year-old was hired last August to be the head of the Senators Community Foundation.

The Senators Community Foundation is a group that focuses on strengthening the connection between the team and the community by addressing the issues of accessibility and inclusion. It is unclear why Phillips stepped down from this role, though many are suggesting it could be due to the team's controversial owner in Eugene Melnyk, who by many accounts is a very difficult person to work under.

Given Phillips' reputation with the Senators, there should be more in the coming days on what led to his resignation. After being taken first overall by the Sens in the 1996 draft, he went on to play 1179 games with the team, registering 71 goals and 288 points.
