While there is more to the Montreal Canadiens' success in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs than just
Carey Price, there is no arguing the fact that he's the biggest factor in it. Price has looked like the goaltender who won four major awards back in 2015 when he put the Habs on his back. Of particular interest in these playoffs are Price's shorthanded stats, which are nothing short of jaw-dropping.
The Canadiens have made the penalty kill a major part of their game during their current playoff run, leading all teams in penalties killed. The Habs have killed off 92.7 percent of the penalties they've received, allowing three goals and scoring four themselves. At the center of that is Price's shorthanded save percentage, which is an amazing .948 percent. The next best goaltender while a man short in the playoffs is Colorado's Philip Grubauer, who was at .882 percent when the Avs were eliminated.
Price's overall save percentage in the playoffs is .932, second only to
Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who comes in at .935. There's a chance the two goaltenders could square off in the finals, although Vegas and the New York Islanders are hoping to have something to say about that.
