Conflicting reports arising after rumors Kaprizov could be returning to Russia

Minnesota Wild star Kirill Kaprizov is in a pretty messy situation regarding where he will play next season. Talks between him and the Wild have gone cold and yesterday a lot of reports made it seem like he had already made his decision to go back to Russia.

Kaprizov actually already has returned to Russia, but not for hockey related reasons, at least not yet. The 24-year-old returned to Moscow for a friend's wedding, and his agent gave the team a heads up.

If Kaprizov decides to not sign with the Wild, CSKA would be his only other option. He would be offered a ton of money, so the rumors of him returning to his homeland might last as long as he is unsigned.

It sounds like the Calder trophy candidate wants a short term deal with the team, but the Wild have only offered long-term. This will likely mean that negotiations will be difficult. Kaprizov does have the leverage as he can say he will return to Russia. Although, expect Kaprizov to use this as leverage to get more money and return to Minnesota.

This would be a huge blow for Minnesota as Kaprizov had finally given the team an identity and seemed like they would be a perennial contender for the foreseeable future, but without him, things will get a lot more messy.
