PERRY, SUZUKI READY FOR OPPORTUNITY AHEAD OF THEM IN ROUND THREE

JUN 12, 2021  (2H07)      COOPER GODIN
We're only a few days away from puck drop in Game one of the Stanley Cup semi-final series between the Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights. The Canadiens will depart from Montreal on Saturday, but spoke with the media about the challenge ahead of them in the third round.

Corey Perry has been a great addition for Montreal. He's provided some depth and leadership during their playoff run. The 36-year-old knows what it takes to win in the playoffs, and has won the Stanley Cup once in his career, back in 2007 with the Anaheim Ducks. In the bubble last summer, Perry played a key role in getting the Dallas Stars to the Stanley Cup Final, and will look to help his team eliminate Vegas in the third round, for a second straight year.

During his media availability, Perry talked about how his role has expanded since signing with the Canadiens just before the 2020-21 season began.

"I was fortunate enough to get the call; I was told right away I'd probably start on the taxi squad & work my way up and I said: 'no problem, I'll come in and do whatever I have to do," Perry said.

Meanwhile, an interesting subplot will play out during the series as former Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty will play against his former team, and former Vegas Golden Knights draft pick Nick Suzuki will play against the team that took him 13th overall in 2017.

In September, it will be three years since the Canadiens traded Pacioretty to Vegas in exchange for Nick Suzuki, Tomas Tatar, and a 2019 second round pick. It's safe to say that the trade has worked out really well for both teams.

Suzuki met with the media on Friday and was asked what it meant to play against the team that drafted him, and how it was to be traded before even getting an opportunity with the Golden Knights.

"It worked out for both teams obviously but I think when Marc [Bergevin] called me and said I was a big piece that they wanted, I just wanted to show that Montreal made the right decision in brining me over," Suzuki said. "I want to do everything I can for this franchise so it's more about proving Marc [Bergevin] right to want me in the deal."

Game one between Vegas and Montreal is set for Monday night at 9 p.m. ET on CBC and Sportsnet.
