Taylor Hall looking for fit, not money, on next contract

After electing to sign a one-year, $8 million deal with the Buffalo Sabres last offseason, many questioned whether or not Taylor Hall truly cared about winning.

Questions of his character arose even more after a terrible stint in Buffalo in which he had just two goals and 19 points in 37 games before being dealt to the Boston Bruins at the trade deadline. He quickly proved after the move that he is still a high end player in the league, scoring eight goals and 14 points in just 16 games with the B's. Now that their season has ended, he is hoping he can work out a new deal with them all while knowing they may not have a ton of cap space.

«I see a fit, hopefully they feel the same,» Hall told reporters on Friday. «I'm not looking to absolutely maximize my value at this point in my career. I've been fortunate enough to make some good money in this league. At this point, it's more of a fit for me than maybe money, or long-term thing.»

According to CapFriendly, the 29-year-old has made an estimated $52.2 million in the NHL. If he were to go the free agent route, he likely could command another big pay day, but clearly wants to remain with the Bruins if possible. Management would likely want to have him back as well, though that may be tough given that both Tuukka Rask and David Krejci are also without contracts for the 2021-22 season. It will be an interesting offseason for this Boston team.
