Canadiens owner Geoff Molson reaches out to Jets fan after alleged assault

After Monday night's game between the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets, Alex Wojakowski alleges he was both assaulted and robbed simply for wearing a Jets uniform. With this story being discussed plenty in recent days, Habs owner Geoff Molson chose to phone the 23-year-old and chat.

Molson let Wojakowski know that he will be sending him a new Jets jersey, which was stolen from him at the time of the assault, and will also send a Canadiens hat. The reported attack happened shortly after the Canadiens eliminated the Jets in Game 4. As he was walking home, Wojakowski says he was harassed by roughly seven men and tried to cross the street to avoid confrontation. Unfortunately, that didn't work as the men followed him and shortly after begin hitting him and taking off with his jersey.

Hours after the incident, another Habs fan found the Jets jersey, which was torn up, in a garbage near the location Wojakowski gave to police. At the time, the man says he thought it was likely an upset Jets fan and took a picture with the ripped jersey as a joke. However, he has since realized what the real reasoning behind the jersey was and says he is «really disappointed» about the attack.

Montreal police have confirmed that they have surveillance video of what happened, but have yet to make any arrests. This is extremely unfortunate news, but is good to see that fans and even the Canadiens owner are doing everything they can to support Wojakowski. This likely isn't the last we will hear of this story.
