The NHL's Department of Player Safety are surely earning their paychecks this week as the intensity has ramped up around the NHL as we approach the postseason.
On Sunday, the Department of Player Safety announced that a pair of fines were being issued to Montreal's
Joel Edmundson and Florida's
Brandon Montour.
Edmundson was fined $1,000 for a dangerous trip on Toronto Maple Leafs captain
John Tavares during Saturday evening's game between the Leafs and the Habs, the final of their season series.

Meanwhile in Florida, Montour is facing a $5,000 fine for spearing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Pat Maroon. Maroon also earned himself a hearing with the DOPS for a subsequent incident in which he attacked Montour while the defenseman was being restrained by an official.
The Tampa/Florida game was a particularly rough affair, yielding over 130 penalty minutes in the contest. The two Florida-based teams are scheduled to meet in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs later this month.
