Members of the Columbus Blue Jackets were likely still showering Saturday night after their final game of the season when it was revealed the team would be looking for a new head coach over the summer. John Tortorella, whose contract is up, has reportedly already informed General Manager Jarmo Kekäläinen that he will not be returning. However, it appears he has no interest in riding off quietly into the sunset.

"Word on Tortorella, who will be 63 in June, is that he's not retiring and still wants to coach," said Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

The question is, of course, who will be willing to give him a contract. There are a few possibilities. The Seattle Kraken have yet to name their very first head coach in franchise history. There's word Rick Tocchet will not be returning to the Arizona Coyotes after the two sides failed to reach an agreement. Chris Drury, the new President and GM of the New York Rangers, may very well decide that he wants his own coach for the team next season rather than someone hired by the old regime. Alain Vigneault's job in Philadelphia appears to be in jeopardy after the team failed to reach the playoffs. These are just a few of the possible scenarios. There are always surprise firings during the offseason as well.

Torts spent six seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets, with the second round of the playoffs being his most successful showing. He has also had stints as head coach of the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Vancouver Canucks. His record with Columbus this season is 18-26-12.
