AN EMOTIONAL RYAN MILLER COMFORTED BY HIS PARENTS FOLLOWING THE FINAL GAME OF HIS NHL CAREER

Anaheim Ducks goaltender Ryan Miller may not have gotten a win in his final game, dropping a 4-3 OT decision to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday evening, but thanks to the Minnesota Wild allowing limited fan attendance, Miller was able to have his parents present with him as he hung up the skates on Saturday.

As was expected, the Wild players showed nothing but pure class by offering their congratulations to Miller after the game and wishing him well on his future endeavors, whatever they may be.

It was an emotional scene following the game when a visibly devastated Miller collapsed into the arms of his parents, who consoled their weeping son as he said goodbye to the game that he loves so much - a game he devoted his life to. It just goes to show that no matter how old you are, the embrace of mom and dad is the safest place in the world.

During the postgame media scrum, Miller was asked by NHL.com's Jessi Pierce how special it was to be able to share this moment with his parents.

"Pretty emotional," Miller said. "It was nice to have them there. They were there in the beginning, felt it was right to have them there at the end."

Miller, 40, has played 795 career NHL games, which is the 3rd-most of any active NHL goaltender and 18th-most in league history over an impressive 18 NHL seasons. The East Lansing, Michigan native also ranks 3rd among active goalies in wins (391) and 3rd in saves as well (21,644).

He won a Vezina Trophy in 2009-2010 and was named to an NHL All-Star in the same season.

A remarkable talent, Miller will definitely be remembered for his on-ice contributions, but there's no question that he will remain involved in the game in some facet beyond his playing days.

All the best to Miller on a stellar career and congratulations to him on his retirement.
