According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes and head coach Rod Brind'Amour are close to agreeing on a three-year extension that would pay him roughly $1.8 million per year.
Ironically enough, Brind'Amour was hired three years ago Saturday. The 50-year-old has done a tremendous job in turning the Hurricanes into a serious contender and has not yet missed the playoffs since becoming their head coach. Prior to being named their head coach, he spent seven years with them as an assistant.
Though he is now known as a coach, Brind'Amour also had a tremendous career as a player. He appeared in 1484 career NHL games in stints with the St. Louis Blues, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Hurricanes. In those 1484 games he managed to rack up 452 goals and 1184 points.
