Two days after being dismissed from his role as President of the New York Rangers, John Davidson has put out a statement through his representative at The Montag Group.

"It has been an honor and pleasure serving as President of the New York Rangers the past two years. I am very proud of the work we have done and believe this team's future is very bright. I want to thank all the great people in the organization for their tireless and passionate work day in and day out. I first came to New York as a 22-year-old and it has ben in my blood ever since. The energy and vibrance of the city will always be something I cherish. Most of all I want to thank you, the fans. You welcomed my wife Diana and me with open arms and I want to express our sincerest and most heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous love and support you've always shown us. All the best, JD."

Both Davidson and Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton were fired on Wednesday. The firings came at an odd time for the organization. 24 hours prior the team put out a statement calling out the Department of Player Safety for not suspending Capitals forward Tom Wilson after an outburst during Monday night's game.

There were reports out on Wednesday that the Rangers decided to fire Davidson and Gorton following the pair distancing themselves from the statement put out on Tuesday. The Rangers have denied that the firings were related to the statement, but rather owner James Dolan's disappointment in how the team did this season.
