ESPN looking to add Wayne Gretzky as broadcaster

According to Sean Shapiro of The Athletic, ESPN is taking a shot at landing the biggest name in hockey for a broadcasting role. That name, of course, being Wayne Gretzky.

ESPN has reportedly approached The Great One about a broadcasting gig, and whether his interest is unknown at this point, he has not yet given them a ‘no' answer. It has been rumored that ESPN, who signed a seven-year deal with the NHL roughly two months ago, has been looking to add some big hockey personalities who had Hall of Fame careers. It goes without saying that bringing in Gretzky, who recorded 2857 career points, would fit that bill.

While it remains to be seen whether or not Gretzky will accept a role with ESPN, they were able to add some big name commentators yesterday. Kenny Albert, who is the voice of the New York Rangers, is set to do this year's Stanley Cup Final and will continue to do so moving forward. Meanwhile, they reportedly have deals set up with both Eddie Olczyk and Ray Ferraro as well, both of which are highly respected analysts in the game. It appears the deal the NHL agreed to with both ESPN and Turner Sports will play a huge role in bringing more fans to the league.
