The New York Rangers' newly hired general manager Chris Drury explained to media on Thursday morning what his plans for the team going forward are.

It has been a pretty hectic week for the New York Rangers to say the least. First, there was a major scuffle involving Tom Wilson which many expected to result in a suspension for the Washington Capitals' forward. When it didn't, the Rangers released a team statement on Twitter, which their now former general manager Jeff Gorton reportedly wasn't happy with. Coincidentally enough, he was fired the very next day, and Drury, who spent a large chunk of his playing career as a Ranger, was brought in to replace him. He has since made it clear that while he likes the team's roster, he plans to make some changes moving forward.

«I have a lot of thoughts and things I'm looking forward to accomplishing with this team,» said Drury. «I think we do have a lot of good assets and we're going to look at everything and try to figure out how best to take the next step forward.»

He was also asked where he plans to go in terms of the rebuild, which the team claimed they were going through in a statement over three years ago.

«I don't think it's anything too drastic,» Drury explained. «I really believe in what we've accomplished since the letter. What we've been able to do in not only adding some good young assets and making some key trades and signing a marquee free agent (Panarin).»

One other interesting thing that came out of Drury's media availability today was when he was asked about head coach David Quinn's future. Rather than say he was safe, Drury simply said he is not going to discuss anyone's job status publicly, which doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement. It will be interesting to see what changes Drury makes to the roster this offseason.
