Ridiculous stat proves just how reliant Edmonton Oilers are on Connor McDavid

It's no secret that Connor McDavid is a huge part of the Edmonton Oilers' success and the main reason why they are having the year they are.

The 24-year-old is regarded by most as the NHL's best player and his 77 points in just 45 games this season goes a long way in proving that. Many have said in recent years that without McDavid, the Oilers would still be the same lottery team they were for nearly a decade and while fans of the team would deny that, a stat tweeted out from The Hockey News' Matt Larkin helps prove that to be true.

As Larkin's tweet states, the Oilers are plus 88 in scoring chances with McDavid on the ice. Without, however, they are minus 183. This is obviously not a coincidence and goes to show just how special of a talent the Oilers captain is. Still, while some will argue this means the Oilers aren't a good team, this isn't necessarily the case, as having a player as good as McDavid, even if he is forced to do a lot of the work himself, still makes them a playoff caliber team. How that will hold up in the postseason however, remains to be seen.
