RYAN MCDONAGH RIPS LIGHTNING TEAMMATES A NEW ONE FOR POOR EFFORT IN BLOWOUT LOSS

APR 14, 2021  (9H28)      MIKE ARMENTI
The term "blowout loss", when uttered in the same sentence as the Tampa Bay Lightning usually refers to the opposing team being dismantled at the hands of the defending Stanley Cup Champs. However, a lackluster effort brought forth by the Bolts on Tuesday landed them on the receiving end of an absolute thrashing by the red hot Nashville Predators, who are 13-3 in their last 16 games.

The Bolts ended up getting smashed 7-2 on the road as the Preds move to 49 points on the season, 4 up on the Chicago Blackhawks for 4th spot in the Central Division, though the Hawks have a game-in-hand.

For veteran defenseman Ryan McDonagh, the effort just was not good enough from his club on Tuesday and he made sure to voice his displeasure after the game.

"Tonight was an absolute embarrassment," McDonagh said, per The Athletic's Joe Smith.

"This was one of the worst performances I've seen in a Lightning uniform from our group," adding that the effort his team put forth was of the less-than 50% variety.

This lopsided loss just goes to show that no team in the NHL - even a Stanley Cup Champion team - is above laying a stinker every now and again.

One thing is for certain, though. The Florida Panthers are going to have their hands full on Thursday when they play a pissed off Lightning team who will certainly be out for blood after getting blown out by the Preds on Tuesday.
