The Vegas Golden Knights were hoping to sweep the Chicago Blackhawks from the first round of the playoffs Sunday, but it was not to be. Chicago built on a fantastic 48 save performance by veteran goaltender Corey Crawford and live to fight another day after a 3-1 win.
Late in the game, with Vegas putting netminder
Robin Lehner on the bench in favour of the extra attacker, Chicago's
Alex DeBrincat had a wide open path to the empty net and would score the insurance goal in his team's victory. On the play,
Max Pacioretty, who was a couple of steps behind the goal scorer, decided to give Debrincat a good whack on the leg with his stick just before DeBrincat took the shot. For that, Pacioretty will pay a fine.
The NHL's Department of Player safety has fined Pacioretty $2500 for his actions, which you can see below.
Vegas still has a three games to one lead in the series. Game 5 takes place Tuesday night.
